The Fallout of the Presidential Election of November 3.
On November 10 – one week after the event – Associate Professor Robert Mikkelsen will analyze the results and review the consequences surrounding what promises to be an extraordinary election. For the first time since Abraham Lincoln’s victory in 1860 – a victory that set off the Civil War – there is a chance that the losing side may refuse to accept the results. The COVID-19 crisis, bitter political division and a sitting President who has repeatedly claimed that he can only lose if the election is “rigged” have led to widespread fears of post-election chaos. In a sense, then, it is not just the next president that will be decided, but possibly the very future of American democracy itself.
